The Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

The Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

2 Cor. 5:14-21, Lk. 2:41-51. The memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary shows the immense love that Mary has for God the Father, Jesus Christ and others. Blessed Virgin Mary had a joyful heart, but also experienced heartbreak. Today’s Gospel tells the story of Mary’s heart break and moment of joyful heart. We learn that during travel after celebrating Passover, Jesus was lost. He was not with the group as they returned from Jerusalem. We can only imagine the pain, worry and fear that she experienced. After three days, Jesus was found in the Temple, teaching. Imagine the joy that Mary felt in her heart when she was reunited with her only son. There was a bit of a scolding “Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.” However, how does a mother respond when her son replies seemingly without fear that He was essentially doing His Father’s work.

At the apparition at Fatima, the Virgin Mary testify to the will of God for poor sinners: “To save the souls of poor sinners, God wishes to establish the devotion to my Immaculate Heart throughout the world. We remember therefore the loving heart of the Mother of the Lord just after we celebrated the love of our Lord, who has poured out His love for us from His wounded and bleeding Heart, as He lay dying on the Cross. Mary was there at the moment of the death of her Son and she witnessed so many events that happened throughout her whole life and as she journeyed and followed her Son’s path and ministry. She has always patiently followed Him and kept everything in her heart, all that she heard and witnessed, including what is reported in today's Gospel that at the age of Twelve Jesus remained behind in the Temple of Jerusalem. In that occasion, Mary patiently listened as she heard Jesus speaking even as a Child, that the Temple of Jerusalem is the House of His Father, His true Father in Heaven. Mary knew in her heart just as she remembered the words of the Archangel Gabriel and all the other signs and words given to her, that her Son Jesus was meant for very great things and as the old servant of God Simeon spoke to her at the moment of the Presentation of the Lord, that a sword would pierce her own heart and all secret then shall be revealed.

May the Lord help us to become a Temple fit for the greater glory of God! Amen!! Good morning and do have a happy weekend!!!
