We encounter God through events of life

We encounter God through events of life

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

2 Jn 1:4-9, Lk. 17:26-37. In today's first reading, John is delighted to find some of the Christians in his community showing sincere love for each other and walking in truth. Walking in truth includes our whole set of relationships, in our home and family, community and at work. These are where we can practise compassion, forgiveness, joy and hope. If we are aware of the quality of all that is good in our world, we will be ready for the coming of the Son of Man. While living fully and enthusiastically, we try to keep our Father and Creator in mind, to deepen our appreciation of life. If we forget the one who made us, our love can grow shallow and wither, drowned out as in the days of Noah, by eating and drinking, buying and selling and the many recreational activities that claim our attention.

In today's Gospel, Jesus warns us not to be totally consumed with the daily preoccupations we have. These things are not wrong in themselves – eating, drinking, giving into marriage, buying, selling, planting, building – they are the usual events of life, but there is much more, beyond those activities. The Son of Man will be fully encountered at the end of time and at the end of our personal lives, but since the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, He is also present in us in our daily activities. Throughout our life, we are invited to cling to the Lord who is the source of life. He is always present in our lives as we go about our daily activities, all we need is to do is to follow His way.

May the Lord grant us every grace and blessing, so that we may continue to build our lives on the teaching of Christ! Amen!! Stay safe and have a fruitful day!!!
