God is at our side in the struggle for justice, peace and life

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Eph. 3:2-12, Lk. 12:39-48. In today's first reading, Paul remarks that he had been entrusted with the gift of salvation, not just for himself, but for the Gentiles. Paul is very much aware of the fact that he has been sent as an Apostle of the Gentiles because he has received the gift of forgiveness and salvation from Jesus. The forgiveness of God is open to us who prepare to get hold of Him even at the watch of the night. In today's Gospel, Jesus projects the need for vigilance to the accountability we must show for being gifted by God. The more we know God and His plan, the more we must be prepared to live in a good and Godly way at all times.

We already have Christ within us, what we seek is the fullness of His presence. He is already at our side in the struggle for justice, peace and life. The fullness has not been attained, but the guarantee of the Kingdom is already in our midst. Therefore, we wait with firm hope for the total liberation of humanity and of nature. When we wait and we struggle, we say rightly: “He is already in our midst!” (Mt. 25:40). Today, we are called to live each day as though the Son of Man were already at the door, just ready to come home after a long absence. Like the loyal servants, we must be ready when He comes. However, hearty and healthy we may be, we know how fragile life can be and “We know neither the day nor the hour” when we may be called to God. We, like Paul, have been chosen as the instruments God will use in proclaiming the Gospel, we must respond and be held accountable. Today, we are challenged to do our best, as Paul puts it: “to preach the inscrutable riches of Christ, and to bring light for all.”

May the Lord teach us to see God in everyone, give us the spirit of forgiveness and a generous heart! Amen!! Be safe and have a wonderful day!!!
