Do not act in doubt

Do not act in doubt

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Jam. 1:19-27, Mk 8:22-26. One of the most important “virtues” in life is patience. In a crowded situation, the Church advises us “not to act” when in doubt. In other words, we need to be patient, calm and recollected in order to act wisely. Uncontaminated spirituality flows from within, as today's first reading puts it. There is a beautiful nexus between ‘nurtured mind’ and its fruit, such as ‘charity,’ that it produces. Life is enhanced and transformed when we act in serenity of the mind. Internal silence enables us to talk to ourselves constructively. In the midst of confusion, we need to learn how to get hold of ourselves for it is healthy to act nobly.

In today's Gospel, we see a bulk of noble people, they did not only bring a blind man to Jesus, they express their care and concern; they beg Him to touch the man. The cure of the blind man suggests that our spiritual enlightenment is a gradual process of coming to understand our mission in life. James offers a challenging set of moral ideals to get us started. We must be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger and rid ourselves of all sorts of wickedness. We need to be doers of the word and not merely hearers of it. We must bridle our tongues, care for people in need and keep ourselves “unstained by the world.” We may need the Lord to 'rub spittle' on our 'eyelids', to bring us to a more compassionate view of life. He can then gently lay His hands on us until we get full insight and see everything in a new light.

May the touch of the Lord transform and mould us into eternal reunion with God! Amen!! Good morning and have a glorious day!!!
