The Lord calm the storms of our life

The Lord calm the storms of our life

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

2 Sam. 12:1-7.10-17, Mk 4:35-41. Today's first reading presents us with David's penitence over Uriah. With the parable of the rich man who had flocks and herds in great abundance but went for the poor man ewe lamb, the Prophet Nathan made David decree his own condemnation. Recognising his fault, David became contrite and accepted the consequences of his sin. This is to show that God's generosity is greater than man's wickedness. God forgives us in times of weakness and uncertainty if we humble ourselves and turn from our evil way (2 Chron. 14:7). We must always be prepared for the challenges of this world because we are frail being. If we trust that Jesus abides in us and we allow Him to guide us, there would not be any need to be afraid when faced with the storms of life. The abiding presence of Jesus is ever sure.

The storm in today's Gospel is a symbol of the forces of chaos and destruction at work in the world. However, there is divine power that controls and subdues any force that is so harmful to humanity, as the faith of Israel confirms. There are two basic truths that the Gospel reveals to us. The First is, Christ is with us in that boat and, is aware of the storm we are battling with. Jesus cannot allow us to be lost in the storm because He is always with us. The second is that, no matter how experienced we are in navigating our own boat, we cannot struggle and overcome our storms alone. We are challenged to hope in Jesus and not to panic over the situation of our life.

May the Lord calm the storms of our life and give us the courage to face the challenge of this world! Amen!! Good morning and Happy weekend!!!
