The Memorial of St Thoas Aquinas

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

2 Sam. 6:12-15.17-19, Mk 3:31-35. Today's first reading presents us with the account of the moment when king David brought the Ark of God, also known as the Ark of the Covenant into the city of Jerusalem. Previously, the Ark has always been in the field, originally carried and brought with the Israelites as they journeyed in the desert during their Exodus from Egypt. A Holy Tent was built to house this Ark of the Covenant, which was a very sacred and important part of the community of the Israelites at that time. For the Ark of the Covenant is not just the symbolic representation of the Covenant, but is also the real focus and emphasis of the bond between God and His people.

David brought the Ark into Jerusalem, he honoured the Lord, dancing and rejoicing with great joy. David obeyed the Lord and put God first before everything, even his pride and honour. In today's Gospel, Jesus invites us to put God first in all things and do the will of God, to belong to His divine household. Jesus made this shocking claim when His mother and relatives asked for Him: "Here are my mother and my brothers. Anyone who does the will of God, that person is my brother and sister and mother." Today, we also remember the memory of a great saint, whose life, works and dedication to God can be a great source of inspiration to us, just as king David and Mary had done. St Thomas Aquinas is a great Doctor of the Church and a master theologian known well by his nickname 'Angelic Doctor'. St. Thomas Aquinas was well-known for his many contributions to theology and philosophy, sparking a great renewal in the intellectual dimension of the Church and the faithful.

May the Lord give us the grace to be able to accept the will of God and remain steadfast to the faith He has given us! Amen!!! Good morning and Peace be with you!!!
