God constantly cares for us

God constantly cares for us

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

1 Sam. 18:6-9.19:1-7, Mk 3:7-12. Fear, suspicion, insecurity, self-doubt, jealousy, envy, resentment are underlying keywords in today's first reading. Saul was the first king of Israel who was chosen from among the people. He was initially good, faithful and obedient to God, but he ended up disobeying God and following his own will and desires, pursuing his own agenda and leading the people into sin. As such, God withdrew His support from him and chose David to be his successor. David also became very famous among the people after he defeated the giant champion of the Philistines, Goliath, in single combat.

That was how the devil entered into Saul and made him even more angry, jealous and insecure and thus wanted to have David killed before he becomes a threat to his kingship. Fortunately, he had Jonathan who took a risk and intervened to save David’s life as he stepped forward with faith, loyalty, belief and trust. God provided for the needs of His servant as Jesus also heal many of the people who came to Him in today's Gospel. Those who were possessed by evil spirits, whom none other could have helped, sought the Lord and the evil spirits were cast out by Him. We can identify with the people who took the trouble to come crowding around Jesus. We need Him as they did, because what He offers is not available from any other source. That is why we seek Him, knock on His door and want Him to touch us. We reach out to Him as the one who can satisfy our deepest hunger. God constantly cares for us and shows His generous love towards us. He does not want any of us to fall into the traps of the devil and his wicked allies.

So, we pray that the Lord grant us strength in our weakness and may fear, suspicion, insecurity, self-doubt, jealousy, envy and resentment never lead us to self-destruction! Amen!! Good morning and have a pleasant day!!!
