The Lord delights in His people

The Lord delights in His people

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

1 Jn 5:14-21, Jn 3:22-30. Today's first reading challenges us to turn away from sins and embrace God's merciful and compassionate love. God calls us to reach out to those around us, call on them and remind everyone on the need to realign our lives once again with God. The Lord has provided us with His truth through His Son, our Lord Jesus. We have to help others in our journey of faith as we are bound to face challenges along this journey. Let us look at the good examples set by John the Baptist in today's Gospel.

Seeing the work of Jesus, the disciples of John the Baptist became confused about his identity. John made it known to them: "No one can receive anything except what has been given from heaven. You can testify that I said that I am not the Christ, but that I was sent before him." In effect, John would not want his disciples to follow him because they recognise him as sent by God, but that he was not the Messiah. He is indeed sent by God to prepare the way of Christ as the prophets spoke of the relation of the Lord God to His chosen people as being like a bridegroom related to His bride. Jesus invites us to allow ourselves to be “chosen” by our God who truly “delights in His people” because that makes us part of God’s own project to serve the whole human race. The coming of John is to prepare the way and not to complete with the way.

May the Gracious God, who allows us to be sent to participate in His mission, renew us and re-create a new heart within us! Amen!! Good morning and Happy weekend!!!
