See how my beloved comes

See how my beloved comes

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Song 2:8-14, Lk. 1:39-45. There are narrations of untold love and intimacy in today's first reading: "See how my Beloved comes, leaping on the mountains." The Song of Songs pours out some of the lovely, lyrical love-poetry written by King Solomon for his young bride from Egypt, describing the overflowing emotions of love between them at the time of their nuptials. In the account of the Visitation in today's Gospel, we see the fulfilment of this coming up as Mary set out and went as quickly as she could to a town in the hill country of Judah, to visit Elizabeth, her beloved cousin.

Mary and Elizabeth felt the saving grace of God flowing through their lives and were not afraid to encourage each other by saying so. Many of us were raised on the principle that ‘God helps those who help themselves’ and that the display of needs are out of place in the pursuit of holiness. Maybe we need to learn again what Elizabeth says so clearly: that God is a gracious God and it is a blessed thing to believe in that graciousness. Let us be gracious to God and seek the Lord with all of our hearts and endeavour to love Him more as we are about to enjoy the glorious celebration of Christmas in few day. We are challenged not to allow this Christmas to be just another holiday or festivity, instead, let us immerse ourselves in the true meaning and joy of Christmas in our Lord’s coming and share the love which He has shown us with one another.

May the Lord who entered our world and shared our human condition, bring health to the sick, comfort the dying and make us ready to help those in need of our help! Amen!! Good morning and happy weekend!!!
