Look to the Lord and be radiant

Look to the Lord and be radiant

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Wis. 13:1-9, Lk. 17:26-37. Today’s Gospel can only be described as sober if it has no joyful ending. Indeed, our times today might seem like Noah’s time where everyone seems distracted and distanced from God, unable to concentrate on what is important; that is what God calls us to do. Today, we are called to urgently discern what our priorities should be and act on those same priorities. Lot’s wife, against advice, looked back and was immobilised and turned into a pillar of salt. Metaphorically she could not leave the past behind. What in our life experiences can we not leave behind? What are the barriers we have that prevent us from fully embracing God’s love and guidance? We are called to leave behind every past and look forward to brighter tomorrow.

The beauty of the natural world may fascinate us, but it can never take the place of God in our life. If we allow mundane things, it will claim our total attention and stifle our willingness to give thanks to the Creator of this splendid world. Today’s first reading quietly insist that from the greatness and beauty of created things, we should acknowledge God as the author. Personal worship requires that we keep a detached space in our hearts, for wonder and praise. This is a reality for all of us to ponder upon and it should be a means to check our path in life, instead of falling into the temptations of worldly things, glory and false idols of money, possessions, fame and affluence.

May our lives here on earth sing the praises of God and may we see God at work in the events of this world! Amen!! Good morning and have a pleasant day!!!
