The humble beginning of the Kingdom of God

The humble beginning of the Kingdom of God

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Rom. 8:18-25, Lk. 13:18-21. In today's Gospel, Jesus presents us with two parables about the Kingdom of Heaven. That is, the unprecedented growth of a tiny seed into a large shrub. The Kingdom of God, in the same way, has a humble beginning in human hearts before it becomes a captivating force. At the start of the growing period, no one can imagine how a small and tiny mustard seed can grow into a large and mighty tree, or how the dough that is tough and unappealing can become so edible and good when yeast has been added to it. To continue doing this regardless, we need faith and hope. The uniqueness of transformations is that it results from a powerful inner dynamism. In the apparent 'smallness', a transforming power is at work as in the case of leaven that transforms the dough.

Those who receive the 'Word of God' and His grace ignites this inner power and transform themselves and become an effective agent of transformation. It takes faith to understand the tangible effects and visible results of the growth that is always unnoticeable and invisible. It also takes faith to understand that the present struggles are nothing compared to the glory that is to be revealed. It is faith that hopes for what we do not see and to wait for it in patience as Paul tells us in today's first reading. Faith enables us to see a large bush in a tiny mustard seed, and the power and working of God in an apparently fragile life situation and hopeless and challenging times.

May the Lord generously fill us with His gifts of faith, hope and love, teach us to put our trust in the Father and to seek His Kingdom first of all rather than imitate the powerful and envy the rich! Amen!! Good morning and have a great day!!!
