Be attune to God

Be attune to God

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

1 Tim. 3:14-16, Lk 7:31-35. In a wholesome family every member is expected to respect the gift of others. In today's first reading, Paul presents a Church gifted with many talents, but says that in the end there are three things that last: faith, hope and love, and the greatest of these is love. To love in such a way, the leaders of God’s household cannot be dominant autocrats or narrow careerists, but people who care for the family quality of life in the Church. Since there is strength in unity, the leaders must strengthen the common faith. There are two striking images to describe how the people of the generation of Jesus failed to respond to His ministry and that of John the Baptist.

In today's Gospel, Jesus shows frustration against the leaders who kept on being stubborn to believe in the truth that God brought into the world. When John the Baptist came into the world and worked among them, many of them doubted and questioned his ascetic lifestyle. On the other hand, when the Lord came and seemingly acted in a different way, they also judged Him by His actions, focusing on His so-called unconventional approach of seeking people like the tax collectors, prostitutes and calling His disciples from the simple, uncouth and uneducated, poor fishermen and illiterate people. The leaders refused to understand that attentive listening is important in our relationship with the Lord, because it is only then that we can move to the divine music. Today, we are challenged to see the need for us to turn wholeheartedly towards God in all things and attune ourselves to Him, knowing Him well and being in closer relationship with Him, walking in the path which He shows us and obey His will. Let us not be caught up in numerous preoccupations and worldly concerns and things that we end up overlooking, forgetting about God and His truth and love for us.

We pray for cheerfulness and a generous heart; may we bring joy to our homes, work and all we meet! Amen!! Good morning and have a wonderful day!!!
