Good and evil co-exist in the world

Good and evil co-exist in the world

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Ex. 33:7-11.34:5-9.28, Mt. 13:36-43. Moses understood that life in all its complexity is a gift from the living God, who sustains us. This is exemplified in Moses’ own direct experience of God. He had a special tabernacle, or meeting tent, for his encounters with God. In today's first reading, Moses entered this tent, the column of cloud came down to its entrance and there the Lord of glory spoke with him. Moses stayed in God’s presence for forty days and forty nights, without food or water as a penance for the sins of his people. We are also summoned to some kind of personal encounter with the living God. As we reach out to God, we can also get some glimpse of the divine presence and pray, like Moses, to the Lord, the merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity. With the explanation about the parable of the darnel in today's Gospel, Jesus emphasises on God’s patience.

The focus of the parable is the final separation of good and evil at the end of time. He suggests that until that final separation, good and evil will co-exist in the world and in our hearts. The weeds were sown in the field by the enemy - satan; the good and healthy wheat, represents the faithful people of God. The Lord, represents the owner of the field, who did not want to pull out the weeds right away, but instead, allowed the weeds to grow alongside the wheat. We must remember that although God loves us dearly, as long as sin is present in our midst, sin will become a great obstacle that will prevent us from truly being able to reach God and be reunited with Him. We must not forget that God is good and perfect and no imperfection and corruption can stand in His presence. If we continue to disobey the Lord and refuse His constant and generous offer of forgiveness and mercy, eventually, it will be by our own rejection and stubbornness that we will choose the option of eternal damnation.

May the Lord help us to be considerate in our decision to follow the right path! Amen!! Good morning and have a great day!!!
