God never abandons His own

God never abandons His own

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Gen. 46:1-7.28-30, Mt. 10:16-23. In today's first reading, Jacob got the news that his beloved son Joseph, once thought to be dead, was alive and was the powerful Regent of Egypt. In his heart, Jacob still doubted that it was the truth, but God came to Him in a dream and reassured him that this was true and he would be reunited with Joseph and his family. God assured Jacob that he and his family, will survive through the difficult years of famine and He would always watch over His people wherever He brought them to. Joseph and Jacob weep over their long separation and final reunion. In today’s Gospel, Jesus said that brother will hand brother over to death and children turn against parents and have them put to death.

In their meeting, Jacob and Joseph realised that tears of grief can be turned into tears of joy, for as soon as Joseph saw him, he flung himself on his father’s neck and wept a long time in his arms. When Jesus warns us to avoid family hostility and even of betrayal, He advises us to persevere with high hopes and grand ideals. We are not to avenge our betrayal, but trust completely in God’s ideals of forgiveness and fidelity, and “hold out till the end.” Along the way we are promised that we will be given what we are to say, for “the Spirit will be speaking in you.” When this ideal of goodness extends through our entire world, humanity’s best hopes will be realised and the Kingdom of God will have come. Today's message is a reassurance that God accompanies us, no matter where we go. Our homes are gifts from God and should not be a distraction to our relationship with God. To be a disciple of Christ, we should use every gift to help further the realisation of God’s Kingdom.

May the Lord, who made all things and keep all things in being, give us the insight to see the hand of God at work in all things! Amen!! Good morning and have a pleasant day!!!
