Abraham trusted in the will of God

Abraham trusted in the will of God

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Gen. 22:1-19, Mt. 9:1-8. Sometimes in life, we find it very disturbing and difficult to accept the true intention of God and its context because we do not understand Him. To test the faith of Abraham, God asked him to give up his son Isaac for sacrifice in today's first reading. Without reservation, Abraham trusted completely in the will of God, obediently and faithfully brought Isaac to Mount Moriah. However, painfully, Abraham sacrificed Isaac and proved his unwavering fidelity to God. Thus, God rewards him by preventing the actual sacrifice and returning his son to him.

While Abraham was faithful and trusted in God despite his confusion, he committed himself regardless, but the teachers of the Law in today's Gospel criticise the Lord for healing the paralysed man. That is what happened when there is a lack of faith in our hearts. The teachers of the Law were very knowledgeable about the details of the customs but their lack of faith made it impossible to understand the meaning and purpose behind those laws. In truth, laws are given so that it would become a guiding light for us to follow, that we do not fall into error. The law of love guides the men as they carry their friend on a stretcher. They were determined to get their paralyzed friend to Jesus, when the crowds around Him became so large to get their friend through the conventional route of the front door. They lifted him up onto the roof of the house and created an opening to lower their friend in front of Jesus. This expresses the act of true friendship. True friendship is the kind that always opens up people to the presence of the Lord.

Join me to thank God as I celebrate my Priestly Anniversary today and pray with me: Let those who hope in you not be put to shame through me, Lord of hosts: let not those who seek you be dismayed through me, God of Israel! Amen!! Good morning peace be with you!!!
