Do not give what is holy to dogs

Do not give what is holy to dogs

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Gen. 13:2.5-18, Mt. 7:6.12-14. Today, we are challenged to live righteously and devote ourselves to serve God in everything we do, so that we may be truly worthy to be called the children of God. In today's Gospel, Jesus warns us not to give what is holy to dogs or throw our pearls to pigs. We can give out holy things to dogs or throw our pearls to pigs if we prefer to take the wide gate rather than the narrow gate, or when we compromise standard or follow the majority effect. Choosing the narrow gate leads us to Christ and helps us to consider others. In today's first reading, Abram considered Lot in his distribution. Abram and Lot possessed a lot of wealth and possessions that resulted in the conflict between their servants. In the quarrels that ensued, Abram decided to part ways with Lot amicably, knowing that if they remain on the same land, more conflicts would surely ensue.

In this way, Abram truly acted nobly and wonderfully even when he could have given in to the temptations of pride and desire. He could have made it such that he benefited from the conflict, or claimed parts of the wealth, flocks and possessions of his own relative. Instead, Abram showed the best of his uprightness and good attitude, as someone whom the Lord had indeed chosen. Today, let us learn to be more faithful like Abram, to be more compassionate, loving and concerned about others, just like our heroes of faith, Abram and all those saints who have gone before us have shown us with their own righteous and worthy lives.

May the Lord guide us through this narrow path, so that we may be reconciled and reunited with God! Amen!! Good morning and have a glorious day!!!
