Let us see the Father and then we shall be satisfied

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Acts 13:44-52, Jn 14:7-14. When Paul and Barnabas were barred from the Synagogue and expelled from the territory, their apparent failure served the spread of the Gospel. Thus, in today's first reading Paul quotes from Isaiah: “I have made you a light to the nations, a means of salvation to the ends of the world.” We can look up to this hopeful principle in our personal crisis, trusting that the whole process is under the loving, guiding providence of our God. With this type of hope, Philip demanded from Jesus in today's Gospel: “Let us see the Father and then we shall be satisfied.” He understood that if only He could see the face of God all his longings would be satisfied. Jesus begins what turns out to be the great revelation of His divinity at a deeper level. Not deeper level for Himself but deeper for His disciples to comprehend.

Jesus revealed His “Divine identity” to His disciples, for their deeper appreciation of whom He really is: ‘one with the Father.' Certainly this ought to be a deeply rooted consolation for them, as He comforts them, helping them to welcome and convincingly believe that His physical absence does not stop Him from being present with them. He acknowledges to their credit that they believe that the Father provided for them and being one with the Father, He will go on providing for them and for us all. He reassures us that if we asked anything in His name, He will do it. Let us turn to the Lord even in moment of desperation and when we are helpless, the Lord says to us: "stay with me, call upon me, I will be there with you." The Lord Jesus does not leave us orphans at any point; He is faithful to His promise and so provides for us always.

May the Lord help us to keep deepening our trust in God, our great provider! Amen!! Good morning and have a wonderful weekend!!!
