In the Name of Jesus the Nazarene, Walk!

In the Name of Jesus the Nazarene, Walk!

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Acts 3:1-10, Lk. 24:13-35.
Death and the seeming defeat on the cross bring inevitable frustration and flight for the disciples. We tend to avoid situations and places that have painful associations for us. Sometimes, that can be the right thing, but perhaps not always. Today's Gospel shows two disciples walking away from Jerusalem, because the city held such negative associations. It was just outside the city that the one they had been following, to whom they had given their lives, was crucified: "But we were hoping that he would be the one to redeem Israel." Jerusalem was the city that killed not only Jesus but also all the hopes they had invested in Him. They wanted out of it as quickly as possible. Yet, they should really have stayed put, for the Lord wanted them to remain in that city.

The disciples walked along life’s journey with Jesus. Emmaus also suggests that if we travel life’s journey with others, sharing our faith and our fears, Christ will be with us, opening our minds to the truth. Christ worked in the lives of Peter and John as they entered through the beautiful gate. As Peter and John in today's first reading walk through the Temple area, they see a beggar sitting by the side of their path. Peter attracts the crippled man’s attention. The man was hoping for a big financial donation.  Peter remarks that he and John have neither silver nor gold, but what they have is a relationship with Jesus, the Risen Lord.  In Jesus’ name they impart a healing upon the crippled man.  The man receives some thing more valuable than money – he received new life in the name of Jesus.

May the Lord look with kindness on us who hope for the resurrection and have mercy on us today and keep us from all evil! Amen!! Good morning, It is well with you!!!
