The Lord is not move by appreciation

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Sir. 27:5-8, 1 Cor. 15:54-58, Lk 6:39-45. Being the Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C, the Church reminds us of the virtues and qualities that should characterise our lives. Appearance could be deceptive, what really determines who we are is what comes from within us. This includes, the quality of our words, wisdom and goodness that we manifest. Thus, the demand of today's first reading is a call to be very careful in evaluating people based on their appearances rather than the wisdom that comes from them. It says: “The test of a man is in his conversation. A man’s word betrays what he feels. Do not praise him before he speaks".

We need wisdom to discern the truth in people because people could say beautiful words just to please and deceive others, while their hearts are far away from the truth. The wisdom, good counsel and sincerity that should come from us is what sets us apart. Not only our words, but our actions must edify, improve and encourage others. In today’s Gospel, Jesus also teaches us that the quality of our heart determines the quality of our words and actions. He says: “A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good, but an evil person out of a store of evil produces evil; for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks". Paul also reminds us that God has given us victory through Christ. Let our hearts be filled with joy for what God has down for us through Christ.

May the Lord answer our prayers and renew our hearts! Amen!! Good morning and happy Sunday!!!
