Let the children come to me

Let the children come to me

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Eccles. 17:1-13, Mk 10:13-16. Yesterday, we reflected on the hard work and beauty of a marital union worth preserving for ever. Today, we are challenged to always welcome children. In yesterday’s reading, Jesus stated the obvious that marriage cannot be dissolved by any human power, because through God’s power, husband and wife “are no longer two but one flesh”. Here, Jesus becomes indignant and declares: “Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these".

The Church taught us that the birth and education of children is integral to God’s design for marriage: the willed exclusion of this goal prevents the integrity of a marriage. Marriage between two persons truly in love with each other and with God will bear the innocence and love for life seen in the child-like. In today's Gospel, Jesus brought the little ones to His embrace to confirm His love for them. Jesus in the midst of children, took them in His arms, hugged and blessed them to show us that we have a God so humane, tender, affectionate and close to us. Today, we are challenged to be “child-like” to be able to sing the praise of God as His creature.

May the Lord save us by the power of His hand and may the fire of a His word consume our sins and its brightness illumine our hearts! Amen!! Good morning and happy weekend!!!
