Fidelity to God’s will makes a family of all Christians.

Fidelity to God’s will makes a family of all Christians.

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Heb. 10:1-10, Mk 3:31-35. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus confronts a society divided by an intricate code separating the clean from the unclean, the righteous and the sinners, insiders and outcast. He turns such society upside down, breaking down the codes that divide the family of God, restoring the broken to the community and inviting those outside to a place of special honour in God's plan. The immediate glance into today’s Gospel seems to show Jesus breaking the family ties. When His mother and other members of His family came to Him, one might expect Him to drop everything else and devote all His attention to them. Instead He said: “Whoever does the will of God is my brother, my sister, my mother”.

Unlike the old family that is limited to privileges of birth, the requirement for admission into the new family of God is fidelity to God. The invitation to this new family extends to all who are humble to sit at the feet of Jesus to learn from Him. Today, we are challenged to be faithful to the word of God and regard others as our brothers, sisters, mother or father. The prompting of the Lord is usually found in the small events of life and in concern for others. The message in today's first reading invites us to root our daily intentions in the strength and goodness of Jesus. Constantly, we need to turn to Jesus, to purify our motives and form wider circle of love. The attitude of Jesus sanctifies our daily actions: “I have come to do your will, O God".

May Christ our hope and courage, sustain us throughout the day and fight for us against our weakness! Amen!!! Good morning, Peace be with you!!!
