The Conversion of St Paul

The Conversion of St Paul

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Acts 22:3-16, Mk 16:15-18. Today, we celebrate the conversion of Saul, the most fierce persecutor of Christians, who became Paul the most ardent apostle of Jesus and the greatest defender of Christianity. In today's first reading Paul tells the story of his conversion when Christ appeared to him in a vision as he was on his way to Damascus. As a strict Jew, a Pharisee and a follower of Gamaliel (a famous rabbi), Saul had been brought up with the concept of being a faithful believer in the one true God. Saul was so convinced on his ways that he mounted a crusade to put an end to the people of 'the Way'.

After his conversion, there is no doubt that he preached a different Gospel than he had before his conversion. He was willing to face imprisonment, suffering and even death in order to help spread 'the Word' and proclaim the Good News to all creation. His life speaks of his dedication to being an apostle and an evangelist. The life of St Paul challenges us to be committed to the faith we profess. For Paul, there was more than enough evidence to convince him of being a Christian. Not only did he call himself a follower of Jesus, he preached the Good News, suffered persecution and lived a life that proclaimed that Jesus is Lord. Is there enough evidence in our life to be used to show that we are Christians?

May the Lord guide our steps and make us worthy vessel of God! Amen!! Good morning, have a pleasant day!!!
