The Gift of God helps us to participate in the Mission of Christ

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Ish 62:1-5, I Cor. 12:4-11, Jn 2:1-11. On this Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C, we rejoice in God who blessed us with different gifts of the Holy Spirit, so that we could participate in the ministry of Christ. In today's first reading, God assures us of His willingness to continue to protect us because He will never abandon us. In the second reading, Paul reminds us that because of His love for us, God has generously endowed us with different gifts. They are given to us for the purpose of participating in the mission of Christ. They are for the edification and growth of the Church of Christ. They are given to us generously, so, we must also use them generously, sincerely and cheerfully in serving the Church.

Today’s Gospel is centered on the first miracle of Jesus Christ. This miracle is a product of the generosity of Christ. Although, it was not yet time for Christ to commence His public ministry, He generously accepted to help out with His gift of miracle. Through this, Christ taught us that we should use our gifts for the good and growth of the people of God. Today we are called to emulate the example of Christ and Mary who used their gifts for the growth and edification of the people of God. Also, we must constantly ask our Mother Mary for her intercession as those at the wedding feast did. Most importantly, we must be ready to take her advice: “Do whatever He tells you to do”.

May the Lord save us by the power of His hand, may the fire of His word consume our sins and its brightness illumine our hearts! Amen!! Good morning and Happy Sunday!!!
