The Word of God is Alive and Active

The Word of God is Alive and Active

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Heb. 4:12-16, Mk 12:13-17. To know the importance of the word of God in our life, today's first reading presents the word of God as "something alive and active: it cuts like any double-edged sword but more finely". The double effect of the word of God makes it difficult to be manipulated upon. Instead of misinterpreting the word of God to our advantage, we are challenged to allow it to purge us of our wrong doings and to do the will of God.

The call of Levi in today's Gospel and the events that followed at his house are summed up in the response of Jesus: “Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners". God calls those whom He chooses and makes them fit for His ministry. Self-righteousness may bloat our ego but may keep us away from encountering the mercy of God that has been manifested to us in Christ.

May the Lord help us to be considerate and kind so that we bring joy to those we meet! Amen!! Good morning and have a pleasant weekend!!!
