The purpose of God is fulfilled in the Deliverance of His people

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

2 Sam. 7:1-5.8-12.14.16, Lk. 1:67-79. In today's Gospel, inspired by the Holy Spirit, Zechariah sings the canticle of praise as a spontaneous expression of his faith and joy in the Lord who deliver him from the curse of not having a child. Zachariah's song, which is traditionally called "the Beneditus" is the text which the Church reads on the day before Christmas. The "Benedistus" links the promise of salvation and redemption inseparably to the achievement of peace. The people of God cannot have redemption without peace, for each is necessary for the realisation of the other. It affirms that God's purposes are being fulfilled in the deliverance of His people from the hands of their oppressors.

The feet of believers are being guided in the way of peace so that they may worship God without fear. Zachariah experienced the Lord and sang the hymn of praise, John the Baptist experienced the Lord and he dedicated his life to prepare the way for the Lord. Like the Baptist, we are called to prepare the way that leads to Christ and be the voice of the voiceless.

May the Lord grant us His mercy and encourage us to do the will of God! Amen!! Good morning and have a fruitful week!!!
