Be consecrated to the Lord

Be consecrated to the Lord

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Jud. 13:2-7.24-25, Lk. 1:5-25. Today's readings present us with the birth of Samson and John the Baptist, who were consecrated to God as recorded in the Scripture: "For the boy shall be God’s nazirite from his mother’s womb to his dying day" (Num. 6:1). When Zechariah was told, "Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son and you will name him John; you will have joy and gladness and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord," he was literally stunned. He just could not believe this breaking news and so he could only ask the Angel: "How can I believe this? I am an old man and my wife is getting on in years".

God intervenes in the life of His people who call on Him. No prayer goes unanswered by God and so the Angel informs Zechariah that his prayer has been heard. God makes possible what is impossible for human beings. Zechariah and Elizabeth, apparently two obscure persons but faithful followers of the Lord, bring home the message that if we are consistent with God and call on Him in faith and hope, He will answer our prayers.

May the Lord help us to hear the voice of God through all the situations of our lives! Amen!! Good morning and have a wonderful day!!!
