The Christmas Octave Spiritual Tonic

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

1 Jn 2:3-11, Lk. 2:22-35. Today's Gospel consists of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, the purification of Mary and the song of Simeon. When Joseph and Mary presented the child Jesus in the Temple, Simeon immediately recognised the presence of the Lord in the Temple. He saw the infant Jesus as the fulfilment of all the messianic prophecies, hope and prayers of the people of Israel. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, Simeon prophesied that Jesus was to be "a revealing light to the Gentiles". Jesus came not only as "light and salvation" for Israel, but as a sign of contradiction: "Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising of many in Israel and a sign that is spoken against". The point is that, not everyone will recognise God coming, in Christ. Jesus will be rejected and maltreated. Even His mother will have to share in His sufferings.

Jesus came to challenge our way of looking at the world because many of our preconceived ideas and notions are depraved and corrupted. Through Jesus, we are challenged to give up those deprave ideas and notions about the world and God and start up anew. It is easier and more comfortable to live the selfish and self-centred lives that we are used to rather than be concerned about others. Today, we are invited to allow the presence of Jesus to change our lives for the better

May the Lord shine His divine light on us so that we may see the light, follow the light, be enlightened by the light and become beacons of light! Amen!! Good morning and have a glorious day!!!
