The Good Shepherd who laid down His life for others

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Ish 40:1-11, Mt. 18:12-14. When we hopelessly adrift in a life of uncertainty, when we are alone, lost and disoriented without a sense of direction, we encounter the worst fear. At that instance, we need a guide who would show us the way because an isolated sheep can become an easy prey for wolves. Today's first reading presents us with the image of a shepherd who cares for his sheep to describe what God is like. God promised that He would personally shepherd His people and lead them to safety. That is why God sent His only begotten Son as the Messiah who would not only restore peace to the land, but who would also care for His people with love and compassion.

In today's Gospel, Jesus describes Himself as the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for His sheep. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, watches over every step we take and everything we do. Today, we are challenged to listen to His voice and follow the path He has set for us. Jesus assures us that He will not rest until He finds and leads us home to God. He is the Good Shepherd who in compassion and love laid down His life for us.

May the Lord help us to set our hearts on the Good Shepherd and transfigure our beings with the hope of future glory! Amen!! Good morning and have a glorious day!!!
