Christ the universal King Reigns
By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK
Dan. 7:13-14, Rev. 1:5-8, Jn 18:33-37. The Solemnity of Christ the Universal King marks the definitive end of the Church’s Liturgical year. Each year we set aside this Sunday to reflect on the reign of Christ and how we can allow His reign in our lives. Today's first reading recounts the vision of Prophet Daniel, where all peoples, nations and languages serve God. The second reading also presents us with the prophecy on how everyone will see the Lord Jesus, even those who have pierced Him. The vision shows the universal judgment of everyone. Today’s Gospel reminds us of the reign of Christ. His reign, is that of justice. He will judge each according to His deeds. There will be no corruption, embezzlement, manipulation, or structural injustices during His reign.
The challenge of today's celebration is to allow the reign of Christ in our life. Allowing the reign should not cut us off from belonging to others but should give us direction to that belonging. The invitation today is to make us belong to Jesus and allow His reign in our lives. In His responses to Pilate’s questions, Jesus distinguishes His Kingdom from the political powers of this world. Jesus is the Universal King, not the kind of king we imagine or expect. He was certainly not the kind of king Pilate feared He might be.
May the Reign of Christ bring unity and peace to our world! Amen!! Good morning and Happy Solemnity of Christ the King!!!
