The Resurrection sures continuation in friendship with God

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Rev. 11:4-12, Lk. 20:27-40. There was a popular Jewish belief that resurrection was a continuation of human life and relations on earth. However, to ridicule this widely held belief in the resurrection of the dead, the Sadducees in today's Gospel confronts Jesus with the analogy of the woman who married to seven men. According to the Levites law in Deuteronomy (25:5), if a married man died without leaving a child, then his brother will be oblige to marry the widow to continue the lineage of his brother.

Responding to this argument, Jesus affirms that resurrection is not merely a continuation of earthly life, but a continuation of friendship with God. People marry to ensure the continuity of species (Gen. 1:28) but not a continuation of life in God. In the resurrection, people attain immortality, so there is no need for marriage. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are friends of God even after death. We enjoy friendship with God if we abide in Him always and death is never a barrier.

May the Lord give us courage when things go wrong and strengthen us with faith in Him, hope in His promises and with love of His will! Amen!! Good morning and do have a Happy weekend!!!
