Happy the womb that bore you and the breasts you sucked

Happy the womb that bore you and the breasts you sucked

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Gal. 3:22-29, Lk. 11:27-28. In today's Gospel, the woman in the crowd was delighted at the word of God that came from Jesus. As a woman, she understands that the credit of any goodness should go to the mother who gave birth and nurtured Him. Jesus acknowledges Mary as someone more than the woman described her to be. She is blessed not so much on account of her blood relationship to Jesus but because of her acceptance of the Word of God and submission to it. In spite of all odds, she never wavered in her readiness to listen to the Word of God and her willingness to relive the Word of God in its fullness. She endured many difficult times which really tested her faith and confidence in God.

When Jesus was rejected, condemned, persecuted and finally nailed to the Cross, Mary remained close to Him. Like Mary, we are challenged relive the Gospel message and live it out in our day-to-day life. We are invited to surrender our whole life to God, as Mary did, for the salvation of humankind. This ensures our salvation than being under the Law that restrains us as Paul tells us in the first reading.

May the Lord grant us His mercy and salvation so that freed from fear, we may always do the Will of God! Amen!! Good morning and Happy weekend!!!
