We shall render Account of our Stewardship

1 Cor. 1:26-31, Mt. 25:14-30. A deep reflection on today's first reading reveals that the Corinthians were using heady philosophical thinking to justify their division until Paul wrote to set them right. Paul emphasises that they are all privileged ones in Jesus Christ: "The human race has nothing to boast about to God...He is the source of our wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, redemption, virtue, holiness and our freedom". Since we can boast of nothing as human, we need to submit everything to God in whom we would give account of our stewardship.

In today's Gospel, Jesus uses the parable of the talent to remind us that we must be ready to render a good account of our talents. God endowed us with different talents, each, according to our various capacities. As trustworthy servants, we are challenged to avoid indifference, apathy, licentiousness, sloth and complacency so that we would be adequately prepared. Today, we are challenged to earnestly seek to serve God with all the gifts, talents and graces He has given us.
