James 4:7; "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

By REV. FR. PAUL ANIGBORO

Why is it so hard to resist the devil, as our first reading today tells us we must do? Why do we covet what we do not possess, thus causing conflicts with our fellow parishioners or neighbors? Why do we fight with the people we're called to serve? In today's Gospel reading, Jesus tells us how important it is to be "the servant of all" rather than to covet a status where we are the ones being served.

When there are unholy desires from within, we can't faithfully serve God. We need to learn to purify our hearts we who are of two minds, as St. James tells us. We are of two minds because we resist giving Jesus our lives totally. No matter how hard we try, we cannot completely belong to Jesus until we have given Jesus all of our wounds. In whatever way we are still unhealed, this is where we are vulnerable to the devil and sin.

Lord help us to purify our hearts and minds always that we may serve you daily in our lives. Amen.

Good morning and do have a wonderful day. God loves you.
