John 6:44; "No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father who sent me."

John 6:44; "No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father who sent me."

By REV. FR. PAUL ANIGBORO

In the celebration of the Holy Mass, there is always a connection between the Word of God and the Eucharist. Both of them are needed for sustainance. The word of God must lead us to partake in the Eucharist. The word of God is the foundation for which we partake in the Eucharist. In today's readings, the first deals with the word of God, while the gospel deals with the Eucharist.

Phillip was used to explain the word of God to the Eunuch. While in the gospel, Jesus told his listeners that he is the bread of life, that anyone who eats of this bread will live forever. The Word nourishes our faith, and it is out of that nourished faith that we come to the Eucharist. The bread of the Word prepares us for the bread of the Eucharist. The bread of the word is a necessary first course, as it were, preparing us to receive the Eucharist well.

Lord, as I listen to your word daily and partake of your body and blood, may I be drawn closer to you. Amen.

Good morning and do have a wonderful day ahead. God loves you.
