The multiplication of Loaves

The multiplication of Loaves

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Acts 5:34-42, Jn 6:1-15. The multiplication of loaves in today's Gospel, teaches us to avoid two extremes: One is the belief that life is a process controlled entirely by man while the other is the belief that life is a process controlled entirely by God. "God cannot do for you what you can do for yourself and you cannot do for yourself what only God can do." In the miracle of multiplication, Jesus wants us to avoid passivity which makes us hide under the pretence of total abandonment in the hands of God. At the same time, He wants us to avoid the thought that all solutions to human problems lies in human effort alone.

Seeing the generosity of the boy who brought the loaves and the love of Jesus, the people felt satisfied. Love works miracles: it multiplies joy and diminishes sorrows; it satisfies our hunger and quenches our thirst; it removes hate and instills growth; it energises both body and spirit. God works through human collaboration; He needs generous, hard working, sincere and committed people to care for His people. God works His miracles when we are generous and willing to surrender our time, talents and even insignificant resources to God.

May the Lord reveal His presence in our work this day, may we do everything for His glory and for the sanctification of our world! Amen!! Good morning, it is well with you!!!
