However loves me will be loved by my Father

However loves me will be loved by my Father

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Acts 8:5-8.14-17, Ps 65, 1 Pt 3:15-18, Jn 14:15-23. On this Sixth Sunday of Easter Year Year A, the Church invites us to imitate Christ who conquer fear and hatred with love. One of the wonders of Christ's victory over death is ‘breaking barriers’ between ‘enemies or rivalries’. In today’s Gospel, Jesus presents us threefold offer, if we love Him: “Whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.” The disciples in today's first reading proves their love for Jesus in their activities of breaking the barriers of enmity. Philip boldly went to preach in Samaria and Peter and John were delegated to go to confirm the new converts in Samaria. We discover that though these people are Jews, no one ever talks about their tribe or place of origin as they witness to the risen Lord. As the barrier of division has been broken. The focus has now shifted on Jesus Christ. Once we open up to the presence of Jesus Christ, every potential barrier that separates us gets broken. Let us place Jesus at the centre and everything in our life will fall in place.

To make us have Him in our lives always, Jesus sends us the Advocate, the Spirit of truth. In today's Gospel, Jesus assures us of His continuous presence and He will not leave us as orphans. As we gradually approach the Pentecost, the advent of the Holy Spirit, we have the responsibility of disposing ourselves properly, in mind and body, for the reception of His transforming gifts. We are challenged to continue to invoke His spiritual animation in all our daily undertakings. Thus, Peter calls us in today's second to be active in living up to our faith, to be faithful in all things and deeds that everyone who hears us, witnesses and interacts with us may know that we are Christians. That we belong to God and are His people and that we are who we say we are, faithful and dedicated to do the will of God at all times.

May the Lord break the walls of hatred and discord in our world and build our lives on the foundation of love and sacrifice! Amen!! Remain safe and Happy Sunday!!!
