God's love and providence are more powerful than our fears and insecurities

God's love and providence are more powerful than our fears and insecurities

By REV. FR. SAMUEL FREDERICK

Ish 49:1-6, Jn 13:21-33.36-38. Today's first reading prefigures the coming of Christ, "the light and revelation to the nations and glory of His people Israel." Like Isaiah, we are reminded to rely on God for everything. Let us begin to count on God’s amazing strength to fulfil His plan for our life. We are reminded that it is an important part of our life’s journey to sing of God’s salvation and proclaim His wondrous deeds. In today’s Gospel, we see the lives of the disciples of Jesus playing out during the last supper. Jesus knew of Judas’ upcoming betrayal as well as Simon Peter’s denial. Judas’ story and Peter’s temporary failure was to help us deal with our own failures. Today, we are challenged to reflect on the times we feel we have let God down and not lived up to what we know we should have done or said.

The good news is that we have the option of returning to God, seeking His redemption and forgiveness. Let us cling to His loving arms, steadfast presence and His amazing strength available for us. We are called to spend this time to reflect on God’s amazing and ever enduring love for us that He was willing to go through challenges and troubles to save us from our distress and troubles. We are invited to look towards our Lord especially in these dark and difficult times. During the current global pandemic affecting many communities and peoples around the world, we need the power of God to heal us. Let us focus on Jesus to help us to live through these difficult moments, with all the restrictions and limitations in place. This is the time for us to remember that no matter how dark and difficult the times may be, God’s love and providence are even more powerful and greater than all the sum of our fears and insecurities. We must have faith in God and trust in Him that He will provide for us and will not abandon us to the darkness.

May the Lord give us the wisdom to stay focused, have a meaningful plan for our lives and help us to remember that He is indeed our everlasting strength! Amen!! Keep safe and have a fear free day!!!
