ARCHBISHOP ABEGUNRIN TELLS FAITHFUL TO BE “SIGNS OF CONTRADICTION” MONATAN, IBADAN

MOST REV. GABRIEL Abegunrin has explained that the celebration of Cathedraticum has both moral and spiritual significance. The moral significance entails that it is aimed at supporting the Chief Shepherd in his ministry to the poor while the spiritual significance consists in the fact that prayer is offered during the ceremony.

Archbishop Abegunrin gave this explanation at the Central Deanery Cathedraticum held at Divine Mercy, Monatan, Ibadan on 20 March.

The ceremony was attended by priests, religious and laity from

the fifteen parishes as

well as the institutions within the deanery.

According to the Archbishop, even though the times are hard and there are many more people in need who look up to the Church for support, the Church does not shirk in her ministry to the poor.

Christ came to the world to challenge the existing traditions and practices as a sign of contradiction, Archbishop Abegurin said while urging the faithful to work hard to be signs of contradiction in the world of today.

He acknowledged that there are some good politicians who are not recognized, so asked the faithful to protect the Church always.

Whatever is contributed, he said, goes into developing church projects in remote areas and paying school fees of indigent members of the society, urging the faithful to make more sacrifice for the sake of the poor and the needy in the society.
