VICAR GENERAL COMMENDS APETE PARISH, IBADAN

PRIESTS HAVE BEEN urged to see their appointments as an opportunity to make their marks in the life of the Church through projects.

V. Rev. Gregory Oyelami, Vicar General of Ibadan, stated this during his visit to St Agnes, Apete, recently.

The era of overseas funding to develop local churches is gone, said Fr Oyelami, and sourcing for money for structural development are solely the business of each local church.

Fr Oyelami thus commended Rev. Fr Patrick Odediran, parish priest, and his assistant, Rev. Fr Vincent Alabi, who with the support of the parishioners and friends were able to put up a church building.

The Vicar General reminded them that the new trend in Africa is for parishioners to source for money locally.

Fr Odediran appreciated the Vicar General but added that the journey had not been easy but for God and the support of the faithful of the three churches that make up the parish: St Agnes, Apete; St Theresa, Awotan, and Holy Archangels, Aba Oloro.

According to Fr Odediran, the modest contributions of members of the parish aided the development of the parish. He said that within three years of the parish’s existence, the project “is almost completed.”
